The Church and the academe should not stay silent when the nation’s dignity is disrespected, UST Rector Fr. Richard Ang, O.P. said, amid the various corruption scandals plaguing the country.
“Maghayag tayo ng tinig laban sa kahit anumang uri ng katiwalian sapagkat kinabukasan nating lahat ang nakataya sa labang ito,” Ang said during the candle-lighting ceremony for the UST Day of Prayer for Truth and Good Governance on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at the Santisimo Rosario Parish.
“Magsama-sama tayong manindigan para sa isang lipunang makadiyos, makabayan, makatao, at tunay na maka-Pilipino,” he added.
He emphasized that education is meaningless if it is not grounded in the situation and condition of our society.
Ang said that order can only be achieved when all those involved in corruption are held accountable through solid evidence and truth.
Meanwhile, the rector called on government officials to serve with honesty, integrity, and commitment to the people.
At the end of his speech, Ang reminded everyone that actions must always be rooted in love for God and compassion for the nation.
Prior to the candle-lighting, Most Rev. Napoleon Sipalay Jr., O.P., presided over the Mass and said that the community is gathered as one body to stand for the truth.
The mass was preceded by a lecture on integrity and accountability in public service and the recitation of the Holy Rosary. Campus landmarks were illuminated in white as part of the call for transparency, accountability, and good governance.
