A Letter from the editor
The year 2025 was definitely a bumpy ride, uncovering secrets, celebrating wins, and confronting harsh realities that tested the nation’s resolve.
As we look back on the events that unfolded, there were moments that pushed people to open their eyes, stand up for what is right, and demand accountability.
It was no easy task keeping up with the year’s developments, from Vice President Sara Duterte receiving her fourth impeachment complaint, to former president Rodrigo Duterte facing proceedings in The Hague, the 2025 midterm elections, and controversies surrounding flood control projects. These events stirred not only anger, but also a growing call for accountability from those in power.
The country witnessed major rallies, from Baha sa Luneta to the Trillion Peso March held in September and November, showing that Filipinos are no longer willing to turn a blind eye.
Amid political unrest, the Philippines also endured 16 typhoons and two major earthquakes that struck Cebu and Mindanao. In the face of repeated disasters, resilience has become a tired expectation, one that citizens are no longer willing to accept as a substitute for action.
The year also saw the unraveling of flood control projects, some of which were revealed to have never existed in the first place. Filipinos began asking questions: Where did the taxes go? What went wrong? From government corruption to substandard and unfinished infrastructure, it became clear that resilience is not the solution to the country’s worsening flood crisis. Accountability, transparency, and the courage to question those in power remain the only way forward.
These stories are a reflection of our collective struggles and courage, carrying the hope that 2026 will lead the nation toward a brighter path, strengthened by the determination and true sense of unity rekindled in the hearts of every Filipino.
Here at TomasinoWeb, we present the wrap up of this year's #TWenty: TomasinoWeb's year-end special.
Patuloy na titindig, hindi na muling pipikit, para sa bayan.
